Tai Tam Baseball Club
The Tai Tam Baseball Club (“TTBC”) participates in the Hong Kong Little League, which itself is a long-standing member of Little League Baseball International (familiar to many as the annual sponsor of the Little League World Series). TTBC is a separate program from the Community Activity Centre baseball program, yet has close ties to the program given that many TTBC players played or continue to play in the CAC baseball program and several of the TTBC teams hold their practice sessions at the Tai Tam field. Whereas Community Activity Center baseball develops baseball players, beginning with very young and novice players, TTBC offers a more competitive and focused baseball program for interested families.
TTBC’s season begins in early September and concludes in late March or early April, with weekly or bi-weekly practices (frequency depends on the age level of the team). Games are held on Sundays starting in October against other Little League teams from around the territory. The Club fields teams in the four Little League divisions –Minor League (ages 8 to 11); Major League (ages 10 to 12); Junior League (ages 13 to 15); and Senior League (ages 15 to 17 with its season running only in the Spring months). TTBC necessarily requires a higher and longer level of participation commitment than the CAC baseball program in return for a more rigorous level of competition. There is of course at all levels of the TTBC a strong commitment to developing baseball skill levels and a sense of fair and fun play.
HKIS students with the requisite baseball skills are eligible to try-out for one of the TTBC teams. Team selection is done on the basis of skill level, numbers of players, coaching support for team formation (which comes from parents) and practice field space availability. It is important for players and their families to understand that involvement in the TTBC is a season-long commitment. The reward for this is great fun, the chance to play baseball competitively around all of the Hong Kong SAR, and the chance to form great friendships with teammates.
The cost of participating in the TTBC ranges from HK$4,000 to $5,000 per player per season. This cost covers HK Little League fees, uniforms, team equipment and playing field costs. Separately each player must have his or her own baseball glove and appropriate athletic shoes.
Interested players will be able to register to try-out for the TTBC at the HK Community Activity Center registration day which is held at the beginning of each school year.
