Lower Primary Monday Newsletter

June 7, 2010

Dear Lower Primary Parents,

Beach parties, pizza parties, author celebrations, poetry readings...a myriad of events to close the school year.

We have just a few days left and before we know it, our school year will end. Your child will have accomplished the completion of a school year, grown by leaps and bounds, and been part of an amazing community of learners. Thank you for trusting your child(ren) to us. We have enjoyed each and every day with your child(ren). We hope that you too, can see the growth and learning your child(ren) has demonstrated over this short nine months!

Your support and commitment to Lower Primary is evident in so much of what I see demonstrated in the hallways, classrooms and activities of our building. Your involvement through volunteering, supporting, assisting, and serving, has been appreciated and valued.

We end our year, with an End of the Year Assembly on Thursday. This is a time to recognize those leaving and to say goodbye to our second graders who will move across the bridge to Upper Primary.

The last day of school for R1 is Wednesday. R2 through G2 have an early dismissal on Thursday at 11:15am. Buses will depart at 11:30am. The school building will be closed Thursday afternoon as all faculty will be at a meeting in Tai Tam.

Yearbooks

Your child's yearbook will come home on Tuesday. Your child may bring it to school on Wednesday and/or Thursday, so that his/her friends can sign it.

Start of Next School Year and Class Lists

You will receive emails about class placement in the second week of August. Orientation day and the opportunity to meet 2010-11 teachers, and sign-up for community activities will be Monday, August 16 (R1-G2) and Tuesday, August 17 (R1-R2). The first day of regular classes will be Tuesday, August 17 for G1 and G2. R1 and R2 join the rest of our school on Wednesday, August 18 with the regular schedule.

Summer Reminders - Check Ups

Just a reminder - summer is always a great time to have a "well care visit" to your family pediatrician! This should be a yearly event and many pediatricians will check all developmental areas on children under the age of six. In addition, yearly vision and hearing tests should also be conducted!

Goodbye

The end of the school year always come with mixed emotion, as we say goodbye to colleagues and friends who move to places, near and far. We have families leaving this year, some of who have been here for quite some time, and some who have just joined us a year ago. We wish you joy, health, and happiness as you move on to your new adventures. Thank you for being a part of our lives and our Lower Primary community. Keep in touch and best of luck!

And, last...Thank you!

It has been an honor to serve as your principal this year. I am blessed to work amongst such professional educators and involved parents. I am always astounded by the generosity, love, and support this community gives. We are all better because of one another, and I am grateful to all of you for your support of our school. Have a wonderful summer and very safe travels!

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.
- Charles R. Swindo

Warm regards,

Maya Nelson
Lower Primary Principal
